Passing Probation

Digg this

Memorizing those day……almost the end of the office hour…..

One of my new assistant in accounting & financial department was having her last 3 months probation period. Her position is Purchasing Assistant. It’s our office regulation that any staff are going to pass her/his probation period should be officially reviewed in order to decide if she/he pass the probation period or not.

There are certain measurements & tools we use to do the passing probation review.

Wait….. I am not going to tell you about the review process… that’s not the purpose of this post…. :-). Just a lil clue…” Ssstttt… I been conducted the official review a week ago, I have all the papers, recommendations from other related department, co worker in accounting, official letter from the HR department and my disposition letter of course…. Everything on my hand already….. :-) ”

Ok, so what is next ?....

I called her for a short meeting……….

In the first minutes, we talked about how she was doing with her job, her daily tasks, her projects, and its current status, which one has completed and which one are outstanding. Ignoring her smiley face during the conversation (as she always does in daily works), I took some important notes and failed it to her folder.

I have specific folder for each of my assistant and staff as a personal data record, it contains everything about my staffs, from their job description, current projects, goals, log in password, phone pin, emergency contact, their birthdays, absence, vacation, etc..

When I asked her about what is her starting date, she started getting nervous…… hmmm. Not nervous actually, she looks feel in un-secure situation. Well, she does not remember what is her starting date with us…

While closing the blind screen on my windows (hey.. I am going to closed my office, got to go home of course). I told her that day was the end of her probation period (before her feeling got even worst).

The smiley face were fading away of her when she just realized today is the judgment day…….Judgment about :

If she has completed every tasks been delegated to her or not
If she achieved the goal or not
If she is good enough for us or not
If she is passing the probation period or not
If she will need to seek for another vacant and submit more CV or not……

She got mistaken in this point, these was not the judgment day, I’ve been done with official review since a week ago.

She been un-officially reviewed since the first time she put off her blazer the first time (hey.. I meant since she start working on her tasks and projects). and that was done by her co-worker, other related department and by myself of course.

Again, before she went too far on her own assumption……

I asked her about my office :

What she feel about my office
If he finds some points that could be improved
How her co-worker are…
Etc…..

She gave me some views… not lots but it still valuable

I said congratulation for the change on her status to permanent position and the risen on her salary of course…:-)
