How To Pass Most Critical Issue To Start a Blog

Digg this

Plenty of blogs or even sites give tutorial for blogging in technical ways, from many countries in many languages, i.e. blog hacking, blog tweaking, from making the layout to search engine optimization. They are all useful. But I would not talk about those tons technical tutorial on this post, although I do learn and do a lot of those practices. I would rather talk about other side of blog starting ; confidence and courage.

If you go around and search blogs whatever topic you're landed to, you will find so many big established blogs with tens or even hundreds of comment on each post. You maybe find some blogs which talk about how successful they’ve been making money by blogging, they named it “Internet marketing” niche.

But, soon after those successful blogs ……

You’ll also find big numbers of “stuck” blog end up to a hello post only. If you check the date of post, it could be months or even years ago.

How could that happened ?..........

2 Fundamental “No Doubt” Reasons of Being Failed To Start a Blog

There are 2 fundamental “No Doubt” reasons :

1. Has not enough interest in blogging.
2. Has not enough time for blogging.

No doubt those are two reason of being failed to start a blog. Then, ask yourself:

“Do I really interest to make a blog ?”

In term to examine whether you have enough interest to make a blog or not, determine yourself if :

(-) You are a story teller. You may start with an exercise to describe who you are. In other word to make a blog you should have plenty of things to say. Or……
(-) You are a controversy maker. Or……
(-) You are well skilled for a blank blank blank.

“Do I have enough time to post and maintain the blog ?”

To measure if you have enough time for blogging or not, determine yourself if you have at least 2 hours sparetime in a day.

If the answer is “NO” for both major issue, you would be better to not go for blogging.

If your answer is “YES”, but afraid of being stuck on the starting phase, here I am going to share on how to pass it.

Passing Most Critical Issue On a Blog Starting

Your answer is “YES” for both fundamental questions , but afraid of being stuck on the starting phase. Yah, In fact it’s easy to sign up a blog, but never easy to pass the starting entry. What I am saying about “a start” is not the “signing up” but the way to go for blogging. I did. It’s ever happened to me when I was starting my very first blog (Accounting, Finance & Taxation – in Indonesian). I was almost stuck on starting phase. Now I am happy, even I have no global reader for this blog, but the traffict grow week by week, well interact with reader, has regular email based feeds for my reader.

Here are some thoughts to kick start your own blog without stuck :

Pick a Topic
Pick a topic whatever you like the most, no matter what it is. Just go for that, don’t afraid of being not a popular topic. It just like dating, you should just go and see what is next when you’re there. Being tight framed on a topic will lead you to the stuck situation.

Choose a software
There are many free blog software available in the internet. Here are 3 biggest and most popular blog software I would recommend : Blogger, Typad, and Wordpress. All are good for starting, Inatant & Easy set up.

Select a Layout
All those 3 software provide free build in layout, select the most simple and look you love the most. Ignore about fancy look or a very personal customization. Searching around for a a free blog layout will lead you to a postponement. Don’t bother by the look at the first start. You will be able to change it later just anytime you want.

Submit a very first post right away
Once you’re finished with topic and layout, you will be offered to start your very first post. Post it right away whatever you want to write. Try to make it as long as you can, otherwise try to reach at least 200 words. Quickly compose, edit and post it right on that time. Don’t leave any space for a complication in your mind. Ignore your thoughts about become a stupid post, being un-professional post or such. Trust me, there won’t be anyone read your post in a month. A wise quote from Mahatma Gandhi (Great Indian Philosopher) : "It is always never significant whatever you do, but important you do it".

If you wish to start by announcement about description of your blog, it maybe a good idea to not make it official announcement, try to not mention your plan about this blog that sound promissing or a form of commitment. Otherwise it could be a second trap that lead you to the next month stuck.

Post, post, post and post
The day after the start, submit another post, keep it easy and enjoyable for yourself. Do it consistently at least twice a week. If you can keep it go for a month, then you’ve just passed the start already.

Visit, read, practice, visit, read, practice
Something good to do as addition on a start is visiting, and reading other’s blog. By reading other blog, then you may find something new that useful for your practice.

Please let me know your thought, share your idea here by giving a comment.
