Probationary Period (I)

Digg this

Following the recruitment and selection process, probation provides you and your manager with the opportunity to assess whether an appropriate match has been made between yourself, the position, and the work environment. The probationary period enables an assessment to be made of your attitude, capacity, and motivation to do the work.

Whilst in many cases experienced staff are appointed to posts, managers should bear in mind that all new members of staff require a settling in period. In some instances some duties will be new to the probationer and some procedures will differ from those of other organisations at which they have worked. On this article you will reveal knowledge about probationary period and all its circumstances;

It is particularly important that you and your manager meet regularly during the probation period to ensure that you are sufficiently supported as you learn your new role and environment, and so your manager can learn how best to support you. A decision can be made by either party during this time to cease employment, with a ‘milestone’ conversation near the end of the probation period to finalize the continuation or non-confirmation of your employment.

Purpose of Probation Period

The purpose of the probationary period is to ensure that a post-holder taking up a new appointment is, within a reasonable period of time, able to gain a full understanding of the requirements of the post and to achieve a satisfactory level of performance. Probationary periods are normally specified in letters of appointment when an employee joins the company from another company and may also be appropriate where an existing employee is promoted to a higher grade, either within the current department or elsewhere within the company.
