Productivity Booster; Conventional Vs Innovative Mind

Digg this

It is a good practice for everyone (staff, Manager, CEO or even un-employed one) to view a condition or situation for a specific issue from the opposite stand. When a common logic says it is clear, we naturally think it is clear absolutely, how if we re-think it, and ask yourself a single question; “is it really clear?” You may discover something different as you go for deeper, some un-discovered points arisen, or even you find some more value added and productive ways on it. Yet this practice will gradually bring you to innovative attitude and mentality in deep ways. Here are some common conditions you can start for your practice.

Skill Factor on Hiring

When assessing two candidates for a job, which asset would you rate higher; “skills or motivation”?

Conventional managers tend to select the person with proven skills, which I guess is why they are conventional managers rather than innovative ones.

To be sure, skills are important, but how long will their value last? In this world of super-fast technological change, today’s skills quickly become obsolete. A person who is motivated, on the other hand, is driven to constantly reach beyond his or her grasp, and that’s a characteristic that never goes out of style.

"Think twice" is a good practice.

"Cut Cost"

Everyone in financial field, managers, entrepreneurs commonly put “cut costs” effort as main priority, never tempt to think about “boost profits”.

Aren’t those ideas just different sides of the same?

Not really. If your mindset is cutting costs, you’ve subtly but effectively bypassed the opportunity to search for innovative ways to improve profits. It may turn out that boosting profits can best be done by cutting costs. to find out, though, you must first examine both possibilities and then compare one against the other.

Neat = Efficient?

Conventional wisdom equates a messy desk with a messy mind. It’s just one more example of how conventional people are biased against unconventional thinkers.

A recent survey of 1,000 successful executives found that only about half kept clean desks; a third described their desks as messy; and the rest said their desks were someplace in between. But those who admitted to messy desks insisted they could quickly locate exactly what they need.

The bottom line: A neat desk surely can reflect a neat mind, but it also can indicate a personality that needs to control, or puts appearance ahead of productivity. Likewise, a messy desk may point to a person who can’t get things done or keep things in order, but it also can reflect a personality that puts productivity first.

You may try to re-think with what you do.
Try to take the opposite figure, go deeper and discover the innovative ways to add more value added and boost your productivity.
