6 Top Mistakes On Interview

Digg this

In addition to my previous tips; How to Win Impression on Hiring Interview, here are a set of straight forward knowledge about 6 TOP MISTAKES you should not do on HIRING INTERVIEW, by knowing things that you should not do, then you will know about things you should do on an interview, just that simple.

Interview is about to get know candidate’s personality, attitude, skills, experience and enthusiasm to the vacant offered by the company, so that company will have maximum chance to hire the truly right person for the respective position.

Here are 6 top interview mistakes that you should not do:

1). Have a little or no knowledge about the "Interviewing Company"

Why is it a mistake?

Being blind with the company who are inviting you for interview is the top killer for you, by not knowing the company, you show the interviewer that:
(-). You are not well prepared
(-). You are lack of awareness
(-). You don’t take the interview seriously
(-). You are a person who can go without any plans on hand

Yet, this disadvantages you so much for:

(-). You have no clue at all about what the company is demanding, what skill is required, what service/works you can offer to suit company need, what skill or knowledge you can offer to solve company’s problem.

(-). There is no way for you to know about what company will offer as a compensation, what pay you are going to deal with.

(-). Even for a silly matter, you don’t know if you should wear a bright formal cloths or a rather casual one.

2). Being un-prepared to talk about plan, career & goal

Why is it a mistake?

Plan is about what you are going to do with your life (in general), and what you are going to do with the company, interviewer want to know if your plan will suit company’s plan (both short and long plan). A question may sounds: If you’re hired, what are you going to do in your first working days or during the probation period?

Mentioned in Wikipedia; “As the idea of personal choice and self direction picks up in the 21st century, aided by the power of the Internet and the increased acceptance of people having multiple kinds of work, the idea of a career is shifting from a closed set of achievements, like a chronological resume of past jobs, to a defined set of pursuits looking forward. In its broadest sense, career refers to an individual’s work and life roles over their lifespan”. It pretty clear mentioned career is closest part in term with works and roles. Your style to map your career to a success life will show the interviewer about how you are going to think, act and succeed your goal, your goal is inline with company's or its'n.

3). Lack enthusiasm

Why is it a mistake?

In Term with works, enthusiasm reflects your work spirit. By showing lack of enthusiasm you show the interviewer off two critical points that you should not:

(-). You are not serious about the interview
(-). Even if you are, you may have no enough enthusiasm for the works offered on the table.

If so, then why the interviewer will waste his/her time to continue with the next process. No point!

4). Do not make enough eye contact

Why is it a mistake?

Eye contact is related to your personality, about:

(-). If you have enough self confidence OR not
(-). If you are paying attention to the interviewer and the interview topic OR not
(-). If you are a good listener or not
(-). If you are a honest person OR not

If you don’t do enough eye contact to the interviewer’s, then you loss all the above personality points. Of course it is not necessary at all to keep starring to the interviewer’s.

5). Are not ready to discuss about skills and experience

Why is it a mistake?

Skills and experience are two key points will be taken as main consideration to examine if you are the right person to be hired or not. Being not ready to discuss about your skill and experience you directly shows the interviewer that YOU HAVE NO ENOUGH SKILL (if not “NO SKILL AT ALL”), and you have no related experience (if not “NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL).

6). Are late to the interview

Why is it a mistake?

This is obvious, being late in interview, you loss the chance, somebody else has been up front of you, somebody else may have been hired already even before you’re coming.
Worst part of being late in interview, it shows indiscipline attitude. If an employee need to provide a really true, unique and critical situation for being excused on late to come to work, then what is needed from a candidate (who has not employed yet) to get an excuse for being late on interview ?. Mostly, NO excuse!
