How To Take Vacation With No Rejection

Digg this

Taking a leave or vacation is always tend to be not easy. Vacation is employee’s right to get it, but it always become a hard task to deal with it. Even when you have asked it 2-4 weeks prior to the date, but the boss seems to not let you go for vacation. What is wrong with it ?, why is it a hard deal ?, how to get your vacation in a pro way with no rejection ?. I would share some tips here…

I am not a Human Resources Manager, but as a Financial Controller, I am in deal with management level ethic, beside I have sub-ordinates in Financial and Accounting department who ask for personal day off, or vacation leave as well. From my day to day roles in term with employee’s leave, I can figure what and where the critical point is.

You should aware that you are hired to be function well in your position now, every single employee like you is part of company’s element, and your office mate too. There is no way for the management to put the company on risk, with lack of support from the staffs. In other simple words, everybody in the organization should take their part to ensure company is running smoothly with no hassle.

Ask yourself with the following 4 questions, before your boss ask you:

1). Can you make sure there is no necessary hassle on company’s operation during your vacation?

2). Can you make sure there is none of your office mate being hurt because of your leave?

3). If your answer is honestly “YES” for both questions, how are you going to make those properly organized?

4). Incase if anything goes worst then should be, are you going to make yourself available for that?

With those 4 questions, you know what you should arrange prior to the vacation days, here I sort them of :

1). Make sure, there is no single project left un-finished before the vacation days
2). Make sure a qualified care taker is being assigned to your daily task
3). If you need your office mate to take care of any small task during your vacation, make sure he/she will be able to really take care of it without bothering his/her own tasks
4). Make your self available for any office emergency matter

If those above 4 points are clear for you, submit a straight forward email to your boss, say to him/her that you are going to “TAKE VACATION”, not going to “ASK FOR VACATION”. I want to be clear about this…., you should not ask for vacation but take vacation.

For illustration here are 2 different samples of vacation letter;

You should not compose your vacation email in this way;

Have a look at the above sample, you are asking (requesting) for vacation, you have the right for a vacation, you don’t need to ask for it, just take it. Also look at the closing sentence, you are asking your boss to consider and confirm it, means you are not seriously need a vacation. With this email, your vacation will be rejected at the most.

Instead, you should compose and submit your email in this way;

With arrangement you made prior to the vacation date and the professional e-mail, there is no point for your boss to reject it, why?

*) Everything will be still under control during your vacation

*) There is no point for him/her to reject for something that never been asked, you take a vacation, you don’t ask for it.

Please feel free to share your comment or thought here, as that will be helpful for other reader
